I need to create a rather large online store for my website and we will be selling music in mp3 or zip format.
Cant vbCart handle this? I know it is geared towards selling scripts but I would like to set up a more traditional online store.
I will need categories and also the ability to search/sort by artist, is this possible?

Also how is the integration with vbAdvanced?

Basically I will need it to work like other carts. Customer browses to product he or she wants, clicks purchase, goes to Paypal check out, is directed back to site. Now the product can either be a link generated on site or sent via email. Customer can only be given access to that one product, not all in a category. I am unsure as to how vbcart works and if it just moves the user to a group that has access to all downloads which is why I am asking. And preferably that link expires after download to prevent leaching.

You can sell downloadable items. I would put the zip in a folder and let vBcart zip the folder
Not possible to search/sort by artist

the homepage here is vbadvanced

it moves to one usergroup, which gives access to memberarea for download, but customer only has access to item purchased during the period of time that you set.
link expires instantly after download
However, if you are selling mp3 you should know that vBcart request an install URL

Anyway to remove this?

I could make that an option to ask for it or not.

Right now Im deciding on whether I should purchase this, or try the now free but unsupported vbDigishop mod.
One other thing I would like, especially from this paid mod, is vbadvanced blocks with the latest and random products displayed.
Is this possible?
Also is the layout of the store and category editable via the Styles admin cp or is it hardcoded into the php files?

The latest and random are part of the main module, like in front page.

So it is not possible to have those blocks displayed on other vbadvanced pages?

I currently have one main block only for vbadvanced

But can I put that block on the side of other non-shop pages?
Also like I asked before, can I edit the layout via the admincp styles editor?
Can you provide a link to a store with more products on it that I can have a look?

You can't. The entire homepage is one block.
I would have to create 2 additional separate modules.
On top of my head I know of a store with 15 or more products, but since he is brand free I can't put the link.
Most people are using brand free
The layout is editable. But product display being dynamic, you have 2 options. Image on the side or on top

Ive only come across a few sites running this. Im concerned, I will be running this with about 50 products to begin with over 5 categories on a site with a huge amount of traffic.
I have a couple more questions:
1. The main shop landing page, how many products does it display? I havent found a site running this mod with more than 6 products so not sure if it limits it or if it just shows all of them, which could be a problem if I have 50 products.
2. How soon could I purchase a version that does not have the licensing website input required like you mentioned before?
3. Can I remove the Download Access column since I will not need it? If this is just a simple style edit I can do that myself no problem.
4. How dedicated are you to helping me develop this? Understand what I am proposing seems a lot larger than any of your current customers, and Id hate to have to set this up, only to find out there is no support or room for growth, or it moves into a totally script only shopping cart in the future, and I have to move to something else. I guess what I am asking is, knowing what I want to use it for, do you think we will have a long lasting relationship? Or do you suggest I look elsewhere for what I need right away and save us both the headache. Please be honest.
5. In the future for example, I may (not planned right now however) move into physical products as well. Is this a direction you plan to move your cart into as well or do you simply plan to stick to digital scripts.
6. Is a separate vbAdvanced block planned for random and new products that we can use to display on other vbadvanced pages?
Feel free to PM me the answers if you dont want to make them public.

See, for example your shop has a PRODUCTS box on the left with all of the products listed there. If I have 50 products that is going to be very big. Instead Id need it to have the Categories listed, and once selected they bring up the products in the main area with pagination.
Oh I guess that is another question, does your cart have pagination?

Right now I would stay away from vBcart as it was not designed to handle more than 50 products. The backbone is there, it is categorized, but only the landing page exists and it is not paginated.
The next version (No ETA) will break it down by category. The landing page will have the categories only and you click on them and it will take you to product page with pagination.
The licensing input can be done in two days, but I have no plan to do so now as I am very busy with a major script. Unless an existing customer wants it.
Question 3 seems to be the same than question 2

Physical products is a long way down the road.
vBadvanced modules are easy to do

Question 3 refers to the Download Access (example: 1 Year) column when adding the product to the cart and not the requirement of imputing a URL to license the product to which 2 refers to.
Either way, what a shame I was so excited that this might be the solution for me on a couple projects I am putting together.
Oh well, it looks like Ill need to move my interest to something else.

vBadvanced modules are easy to do
Lionel I think many users will love to see the option of separate vbadvanced cmps modules other than the existing single one.
The current one is good but is crippling vbadvanced flexibility and limiting what we can do with it.....
What would it take for you to work on some modules for vbcart? :)
