Besides being compatible with VB4 and IPB, are there any new features of iCart?

it's not compatible yet with IPB. There are two new options. In vBoptions where you set one of the provided 25 styles and in products where you can indicate if it is vB 4.0 compatible.

Ever since I upgraded to vB4.0 RC2 the downloads fail from the iCart, guess that's an issue that you will fix when it goes Gold? Still nice, having all the new styles though! :)

I don't have that issue

vb 4.0 gold is out but extremely buggy.

Lots of changes have been made in vb and it will take weeks if not months to convert all scripts.

Except for the Poll and a vb bug in profile tab, icart in the latest release is functional.

I just have to fix a couple of templates.

In case you did not read what is going on, vb 4.0 was a huge disaster and a site killer.

I would strongly advise not to upgrade yet.

It will be months before they sort it out. All coders agree on that: Gold should have never been released, and even original vb coders who have seen the code suggest that the initial server troubles were more likely caused by a horribly unoptimised code-base, and new features that are all but guaranteed to bring servers to their kneesBefore I have even seen that reaction I had started a thread by vb.org about unusually high amount of queries (sometimes up to 262 per CMS hits) which quickly expanded to vb.com where a lot of known coders where expressing their dismay and disgust.

You should also know that vb.com is running on 2 servers and 3 databases and they still had problems themselves. Everyone is unanimous about that: lots of forums will be kicked out by their ISP due to server resources being exhausted.

tbh i kinda expected that but my basic priority isnt to running a community under vb4. I want to upgrade my styles for vb4 and ideally have support forum running under vb4 but i still put a timeline of 1 mnth before rolling out vb4 styles.

I also read announcement that 4.1 is due in Jan. which has major template changes especially css styles. Considering all this i am totally against upgrading but well you know members and they want vb4 styles and can be persuasive.

Anyway glad for the update on the coding front looks like back-end still needs optimising so i'll keep an eye on that..
cheers mate

You are better off telling them to be patient. vB.com already announced that things will change (again) and you will have to redo all styles.

From that post (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/content.php?163-Should-I-upgrade-to-4-0-or-wait-article&AID=10293998&PID=1523465)

3. Are you planning on doing a major new design or design upgrade for your 4.0 forum? There are some minor changes to the organization and conventions in the CSS style sheets in the 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 releases (the weeks of January 4 - 8 and January 18 - 22, respectively) that may affect any designs you do today. Bear in mind that this is a brand new major version release of the product and we're still assimilating feedback on what's best for our designers and skinners.
P.S. Nothing really has changed in the back end and am not planning to do so.

I agree with you vBcover,
vBulletin 4 has been such a disaster and from a designers point of view the template/stylevar system is just awfull.
I have actually had to stop offering vBulletin 4 skins until the template system is solid and not likely to change.
I would strongly suggest that forum owners stay with vB3 for a while yet!!

I gave up with them. It seems that the new release will have drastic CSS changes again. Since I no longer want to wait for them, I decided to use my own CSS (23 of them) in my most important mods so I could proceed with conversion.

Currently converting vBhelp. About 60% done. My hours got drastically reduced from 16 - 18 hours daily to 6 - 8 hours. My kid is staying with me now, and I must be a mom and a dad. I just don't know how the women they do it.

vBulletin 4.0.4 is way faster and looking way better than other vB4 versions. Also, we might need it over at vb4style.com, will there be a Stable vB4 Version available then?

Hi Vincent,

I use iCart on 4.0.3 - it cannot be beaten for functions, a very nice cart indeed. Definitely, worth the money for the quality of this product. I know Lionel is working on a new update for it, just have to wait for the release.

As for 4.0.4 - yes, it is quite a lot faster, with a lot more features added. I guess that will introduce bugs as well, so far it's been a nightmare to deal with. I have even told people not to upgrade to 4.0.3 due to the main problem with it crashing the searchtext_core table. Okay, it is easy to repair, but not everyone knows how.

The new version will probably be ready by the time 4.0.4 is released. It has some new options and one major new feature: Private support. If enabled, every item purchased will have it's own private thread viewable only by customer and authorized membergroups, e.g. moderators etc ... That thread will have productinfo and could be used for support.

Also products per row has been disabled and is now controlled by CSS div. I also reverted to vB styles instead of jQuery.

All items in left and right columns have been placed under navcbar and main page have the option to used left and/or right nav (would be redundant since it is also in navbar). That new option will allow iCart owners to place their products in evidence if they don't use left and right nav.

Love what you're saying :)

Also, I'm working for a vBulletin Style Company, so we sell XML files instead of PHP Files, will the '1 license per domain' work for that too? If not, is it possible?

Yes, it will work for any down-loadable item

Vincent

The encoding only works for PHP, eh?

vBcover
06-14-2010, 07:41 AM
That's correct. It's not possible to encode xml

Vincent

Is there a way we can buy a iCart Pro- version :)

That includes the 1 license per domain, but not the encoder ^^

vBcover

The encoder needs to be purchased at www.ioncube.com

Vincent

Yeah, I know, nevermind, I wasn't really serious :)

+1 for your quick support though :)
I'll ask my 'superiors' to get iCart Pro ;)
